2004: 'Itchy Cornwall'
As section editor for the restaurant sections in ‘Itchy Cornwall’
– a guide to Cornwall aimed at 18-35 year olds (see www.itchycornwall.co.uk)
– I was involved with commissioning and editing content relating
to restaurants. I also wrote a number of reviews myself, some of
which are featured here (and a few of these – such as the
last review here – were written for other sections too).

2003-4:
bloc-online
Conceived and designed as a resource for writers and people interested
in writing, bloc-online is run by students of the Professional Writing
programme at Falmouth College of Arts. During 2003-4 I acted as
Production Editor for the site which gave me an extensive working
knowledge of Dreamweaver as well as a not inconsiderable understanding
of HTML script. The experience was also useful in terms of developing
management/people-handling skills. The link takes you to a demonstration
copy of the site as it appeared in June 2004.

2006: 'ActiveEdge' explanatory poster
This is a poster in A3 format that has been created to give a brief
overview of a new tooling system that has recently been launched
at Rigibore. It is intended for use at exhibitions and trade fairs
in order to give stand visitors a quick and intuitive understanding
of how the new system works, and how it might be applicable to them.

2004: The relationship between print and online publishing:
where is it going?
A report looking at the relationship between online and print publishing,
and at what trends, problems and advantages exist for the online
medium. Its putative target audience would include media individuals
or organizations looking to or contemplating establishing an online
presence. Moreover, of such an audience, chiefly operators who already
maintain a media presence of some kind are addressed.

2000: 'Lay report' – The ozone layer
Written as an exercise in communicating sometimes rather difficult
scientific issues to a general – or 'lay' – audience
this report was researched and written up as part of a final year
project whilst studying Chemistry at Imperial College, London. It
presents an overview of the threats posed to the ozone layer and
at what the likely consequences for earth may be as a result.

2000: Research paper– Molecular Modelling of Pd(0) Insertion
into Carbon- Halogen Bonds
This is a scientific paper very different in nature from anything
displayed above (I've included it the better to provide some insight
into the breadth of my writing background). Researched and written
up in order to fulfil an important research element of the final
year syllabus for my B.Sc. in Chemistry at Imperial College, the
report outlines research carried out in the field of theoretical
computer-aided molecular modelling and eventual conclusions drawn.
In this instance the oxidative addition of a C-X bond (X = F, Cl,
Br, I) to a palladium intermediate is looked at and the effect of
the presence of variously substituted alkyne halide metal complexes
investigated. This paper formed part of an overall – rather
much bigger – research project that eventually resulted in
a published
paper in the Journal of the Chemical Society (Perkin
Transactions 2).
